Three walls enclosing the kitchen were demolished to allow space to expand uninterrupted from the front door to the window wall of this 700 square foot condominium unit at Marina City, perched 500 feet above the Chicago River and overlooking the Loop. The peninsula and lighting soffit trace the outline of the former walls.

40-year-old steel kitchen cabinets were salvaged and reinstalled to complement a white Corian countertop and epoxy-coated white concrete floor. A 20-square-foot hallway was repurposed as a refrigerator, oven and pantry.
